Star Crossed Cell Phones

or
1152 minutes of October

Two cell phones, both alike in dignity,
In fair New York, where we lay our scene,
From ancient grudge break to new minute plans,
Where pcs to pcs makes civil calls uncharged.
From forth the long-winded chats of these two loves,
A pair of star-cross'd phones take their time;
Whose rambling and syllabled overthinking
Do with their merger bury their wallets' strife.
The merciful passage of their profit-mark'd fees,
And the continuance of their estranged providers,
Which, but their land lines' end, nought could remove,
Is now the twenty hours' traffic of our stage;
The signal strength if you with patient ears attend,
What here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend.

as the sun sets on Austin...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Alas, I accidentally deleted my pix from my last day in Austin. What you missed:
* a WHS Class of '95 picnic starring all the band camp romances and their offspring. Andrea and I mingled with the progeny (photo of A & bebe) and then...
* ...fled the roar of my ovaries for the best Late Night Breakfast Tacos, Hibiscus Mint tea and KILLER gingerbread pancakes (insert photo) I've had in 18 months.
* Took a stroll from Andrea's to Book People via Pease Park (not pictured) and were delighted to find Wild Ducks Flying Backward by Tom Robbins. Andrea lent me her copy of Still Life with Woodpecker our freshman year at UT, so all was well.
* Let's not forget Goodflow Strawberry Grapefruit Juice. I heart Goodflow.
* Running into Andrea's friend Ruth at BP who gave us a lift home in her VW Golf which gets 50 mi/gal of diesel!
* Ran A over to Wheatsville Food Co-op (insert pic of cute lesbian farmer friends she ran into here) for a veggie sandwhich
* Skipped the reunion night for a quiet evening Chez Kingman

a kind of scavenger hunt...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
...for the painted churches around Schulenburg, "Halfway to Everywhere!", population 2,699. I was the only soul on the trail, so I guess I WIN!

I visited four in all - a lovely lost afternoon in the rolling hills settled 100+ years ago by Czech-Moravian families. And let's not forget the Stanzel brothers, who revolutionized the model aircraft industry. Sadly, the nearby museum was closed today.

A bright and chilly morning...

...what better way to warm up than with migas at Nueva Onda with Andrea, my dear old high school pal. Here she is with her speed demon cat Chelsea.

And her beloved Volvo:

We stopped by Ruta Maya for some Chiapan dark roast and some left wing sentiments.

Who should be there but Leslie, the legendary transvestite homeless man of Austin. Andrea asked him if he was cold (he was, after all, wearing little more than his trademark spandex bikini and an old jacket. He smirked and said, "hon, I've got the hottest ass in town."
